Deck Sound Engineer

Signature Theatre, a Tony Award-Winning LORT B theatre, seeks a Deck Sound Engineer to maintain all actor microphones and wireless transmitters, wireless receiver packages, orchestra sound systems, and audio practicals.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist actors in dressing of wireless microphones and manage the running of all onstage sound systems as assigned by Resident Sound Designer.
  • Assist the Resident Sound Designer in the installation, maintenance, and load-out of all sound, orchestral, and backstage communication systems.
  • Provide support to run crew and stage management for backstage communication systems.
  • Maintain sound, orchestral, and communication inventories.
  • Maintain all company productions and their artistic and technical values.
  • Substitute for the Lead Sound Engineer and mix the sound design on smaller projects as assigned by Resident Sound Designer.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience with theatrical sound systems and equipment including wireless (RF) microphones, frequency coordination software, mixing consoles (both analog and digital), amplifiers and processing equipment.
  • Experience putting wireless microphones on actors and basic show run responsibilities such as rechargeable battery management, sweat protection and building ear rigs.
  • Knowledge of theatrical software such as Qlab and Dante is preferred.
  • A basic understanding of loudspeaker installation and rigging.

Working Requirements

  • Employee must be able to lift 75+ pounds unaided and in repetition.
  • Employee may be required to occasionally work in extreme conditions: at heights, in confined spaces, and in adverse weather.
  • Employee must maintain a safe and orderly working environment.

Compensation
This position is paid weekly at $17.77/hour and is eligible or overtime (over 40 hours/week) at $26.66/hour.

Master Electrician – ARK Theatre

Signature Theatre, a Tony Award-winning LORT B theatrical company in the Washington, DC metro area, seeks an experienced Master Electrician for the 112-seat ARK Theatre. Signature produces an average of four mainstage productions each season in the ARK, and also produces a series of cabarets, a student production through our education department, and facilitates a series of readings and workshops of new works.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program and run the lighting console for productions in the ARK Theatre, as well as other productions as assigned by the Lighting Supervisor.
  • Work with the Lighting Supervisor in developing a repertory plot, and work with any Artistic staff in creating thoughtful and appropriate lighting cues for all cabarets/special events performed in the ARK Theatre.
  • Plan and execute the circuiting, addressing, power, and consumables required for each assigned plot.
  • Supervise electricians for the hang, focus, notes, and strike of each plot.
  • Maintain the configuration of all lighting equipment and the lighting network.
  • Maintain the light plot for each assigned show.
  • Update and maintain all schedules for each assigned light plot.
  • Coordinate with the Lighting Supervisor on the design and implementation of electrics rigging systems and maintain their safety. Ensure proper functioning and safety of all electrics elements.
  • Coordinate with other departments on any elements that share responsibilities, such as practicals in scenery, the electrification of props, and any MIDI/OSC networks.
  • Assist on productions in the MAX Theatre as assigned.
  • Oversee any followspot operators on an assigned show.
  • Install, maintain, and strike backstage lighting and power systems.
  • Help maintain stage lighting fixtures in public spaces of the facility.
  • Assist on video elements as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience being a master electrician, or L1 Tech, or equivalent, preferably at a regional theatre.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional programming experience, with both conventional and intelligent fixtures, preferably on ETC Eos Family consoles (OS version 3.0 or higher).
  • Proven and demonstrable technical abilities and knowledge, including but not limited to linevoltage wiring, low-voltage wiring, soldering, single-phase and three-phase power distribution, lighting fixture repair/maintenance, IP-based networking, MIDI/MSC/OSC, and basic rigging.
  • Strong leadership and workflow management experience with an emphasis on safety and efficiency, preferably with crews larger than five people.
  • Advanced knowledge of Vectorworks, Lightwright, and Microsoft Office with an aptitude for learning new software tools. Working knowledge of QLab and/or Watchout a plus.
  • Strong understanding of basic lighting design concepts and cue timing, preferably with some live music experience.
  • Ability to work, and lead a crew of overhire electricians to work, under deadlines and on multiple projects simultaneously.

Working Requirements

Assistant Business Manager

Signature Theatre, Arlington, Virginia’s Tony Award®-Winning Regional Theatre, seeks an Assistant Business Manager. The Assistant Business Manager will be a highly detail-oriented individual to manage accounting transactions, administer payroll and other HR activities, oversee office management & assist the Director of Finance & Administration with reporting, reconciliation & management of a $10 million operating budget. This position is based at Signature Theatre’s administrative offices in Arlington, VA, with possibility for a hybrid in person/remote schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Will be responsible for day-to-day accounting functions including reconciliation of all bank/GL accounts including PR liabilities, year-end – W2’s, 1099’s, daily deposits & cash disbursements, and AR/AP.
  • Will support the HR Manager in weekly and semi-monthly payroll process
  • Maintains accounting procedures manual for the Finance & Administration Department
  • Act in a support function to the Director of Finance & Administration and assist with the external auditors during the annual audit process
  • Partner with internal operational teams to produce any needed financial analysis and additional reporting
  • Participate with operational support activities, to include annual budgeting and periodic forecasting, as well as cash flow forecasting
  • Other administration duties as needed

Qualifications
Candidate must have knowledge of not-for-profit accounting and payroll (strong preference for performing arts/unions). Must be an organized/efficient independent worker with excellent proficiency in QuickBooks and bill.com is preferred. Strong preference for candidates with at least 3 years’ experience in a similar position.

Compensation
Signature Theatre offers a salary between $55,000 – $60,000 annually, with excellent benefits including medical, dental, disability and life insurance; vacation, sick and parental leave; as well as complimentary and discount tickets. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position at 40 hours per week with a possibility for telework/hybrid work environment.

Social Media Manager

Signature Theatre seeks a Social Media Manager who can continuously come up with creative ideas, has excellent interpersonal skills, is a great researcher, loves data and is driven to continuous learning and growth in the position. The Social Media Manager works with staff across the organization to help expand Signature’s reach, brand, and community engagement. The Social Media reports to the Director of Marketing and works closely with the marketing, development, artistic and education teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategy
    • Set goals for each social media platform on which Signature is active. Provide regular reports on progress towards those goals.
    • Watch the social media landscape for new social media platforms, grab the @sigtheatre user tag for any platform which looks like will hit mainstream.
    • Advise when ramp up or reduce use of any particular platform.
    • Create and implement strategies to grow user numbers on all active platforms.
  • Planning
    • Create and maintain an organization-wide social media calendar that is open to all staff to view.
    • Share at the weekly marketing meeting the calendar for near future, and any longer-range posts that need discussion.
    • Work with staff across departments, including artistic, production, development, education to plan posts that require a higher-level cross-departmental communication (ie: an artist take over) a few weeks out.
  • Content Creation
    • Create interesting and engaging content, including images/videos and more.
    • Create content that is both directly related to currently running productions as well as more general Signature-related content.
    • Work with Deputy Director of Marketing, Director of Creative Content for any video content needs.
    • Work with Publications Director to schedule any design needs with Signature’s graphic designer.
    • Create audiences for all paid campaigns, track results, reassess and refine as needed.
  • Reporting
    • Create formalized analysis and reporting procedures for Signature’s social media.
      • Decide on what KPI’s to use and what levels indicate success.
      • Track cross-platform posts to create a full picture of a posts’ impact.
      • Decide with Director of Marketing how often results should be analyzed and shared.
    • Track spend and effectiveness of all paid campaigns and revise as needed.
      • Understand the budget for each campaign, maximize paid spend during campaign timeframe.
      • Send reports to finance team to assign costs of paid campaigns to the correct programs.
  • Google AdWords Campaigns
    • Create campaign and ad structure for Signature’s Google Grant AdWords
    • Use AdWords to promote productions, free events and education programs that fill within the guidelines of the grant.
    • Create audiences, keywords and ad targets for each campaign.
    • Assess campaigns effectiveness and refine as necessary.
  • Additional Duties
    • Constant learning – social media is a fast-changing landscape, continuous learning should be a regular part of this position’s duties.
    • Attend marketing meetings and contribute ideas for various campaigns.
    • Attending meetings with other departments as needed.
    • Work at Signature events and festivals in rotation with other staff.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing.

Qualifications

  • Experience in social media content creation on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok for a business. Skill in navigating the backend management of each of these platforms (ie: Facebook’s Creator Studio).
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Skill in taking photos and short videos that look good, and basic level of knowledge creating visual and engaging content using design (Photoshop/Canva) a plus.
  • Knowledge of theater and or the arts a plus.
  • Facility with numbers to support budget creation, monitoring, and reporting, including basic spreadsheet knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Some evening and weekend hours required.

Carpenter – Overhire

The Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA and of the DC metro area, is seeking Overhire Scenic for our current season. Successful candidates will work under the supervision of the Technical Director and Asst. Technical Director, building and installing scenery for various shows in the season.

Position requires knowledge of theatrical stage carpentry. Must be able to work some weekends, climb ladders and lift 50 -75 pounds over your head. Competitive salary and benefits for qualified candidates. Position available immediately.

House Manager

Signature Theatre, a Tony Award®-winning, non-profit professional theater, in Arlington, Virginia seeks a part-time House Manager. House Managers are responsible for providing a high standard of guest service to achieve and maintain customer loyalty from both subscribers and single ticket buyers, maximize revenue for the Signature Shop, and directly supervise members of the Signature Usher and Volunteer Corps. House Managers report to the Front of House Operations Manager. House Managers are expected to facilitate the best patron experience possible at mainstage Signature productions, cabarets, and other events throughout the year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a high level of guest services dealing with all comments, complaints, and points raised by the public in Front of House areas and following up these points by immediate action or in consultation.
  • Responsible for the safety of the audience, in case of an emergency and take the proper steps to either evacuate or secure the audience members. Handling all emergency situations in a calm and instructive manner.
  • Maintains ticket-scanning equipment, hearing impaired devices, and walkie-talkies for communicating with stage manager.
  • Maintain the Signature Theatre Shop, including inventory checks and daily reconciliation.
  • Work in conjunction with the Stage Manager to coordinate performance timelines, including preshow chat, curtain speeches, and intermission.
  • Maintain all front of house areas, including lobbies, theatre spaces, Shop and Coat Check.
  • Set-up and restore the house prior to and after each performance.
  • To serve as an active member of the Front of House department and support the Front of House Operations Manager in upkeep of the department by attending Team Meetings, assisting with Volunteer Trainings, and completing other assigned special projects.
  • To directly supervise members of the Signature Usher & Volunteer Corps while on duty.
  • To work proactively to anticipate the needs of patrons and Signature Theatre.
  • To write and distribute performance reports & accident reports.
  • To assist with other duties as assigned by the Front of House Operations Manager or other Signature Management on Duty.

  • GED required; Secondary Education preferred
  • Previous experience working live events and/or customer service role.

Bartender

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Welcoming customers, determining customer beverage preferences, making recommendations, taking drink and food orders
  • Answering basic inquiries about the current shows such as length, intermission time and basic content warnings.
  • Working directly with other Front of House staff including House Managers and Box Office Associates to ensure a pleasant experience for guests.

Food Expeditor and Dishwasher

Signature Theatre, a Tony Award®-winning, non-profit professional theater, in Arlington, Virginia seeks a part-time Food Expeditor and Dishwasher, to assist a busy kitchen at Ali’s Bar, located inside Signature Theatre.

The Food Expeditor and Dish Washer will be responsible for maintaining the flow of orders from the bar to the kitchen to the diners, ensuring orders are completed quickly and correctly, assisting with the finishing touches on dishes, and conducting quality control on each dish and delivering food to either bartender or to diners at their tables. This position will also be responsible for busing and sanitizing dining tables, collecting utensils and properly cleaning and restocking supplies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Informing the bartenders when certain dishes or ingredients have run out and passing food requests from the bartenders to the kitchen.
  • Ensuring that all orders are completed in time and with the correct priority.
  • Inspecting the cleanliness, presentation, and temperature of completed dishes.
  • Performing the finishing touches to completed dishes, such as adding garnishes and removing smudges.

Teaching Artists

Signature Theatre’s Education Department is conducting an ongoing search for skilled part-time teaching artists for school partnerships, workshops and residencies.

Selected teaching artists will be kept in Signature Education’s teaching artist database and contacted when school partnerships require their specific talents in the classroom. Signature Education is looking for teaching artists with experience teaching acting, directing, voice, dance, playwrighting, technical theatre and theatrical design to middle school and high school students. The need for teaching artists is ongoing and this is a rolling application process.

Basic Duties / Requirements:

  • Teaching artists create, oversee and supervise workshops, residencies and lessons as a Signature representative at partnering schools and organizations. Signature Teaching Artists are expected to be supportive, respectful and encouraging toward all students and classroom teachers. While Signature Education will generally not write lesson plans for Teaching Artists, artists will collaborate with Signature representatives, students, school representatives to create lesson plans and materials
  • Teaching artists should know that they may teach anywhere within the DMV area and that they will be responsible for handling their own transportation to each school they’re assigned to. Should a workshop present itself that takes place online, teaching artists are requested to run the session with a strong connection to the internet.
  • In addition to teaching experience, experience working professionally in theatre is preferred.
  • Signature Theatre teaching artists work with diverse student populations and experience levels. Applicants with experience working with diverse populations, including but not limited to non-English, multilingual, neurodiverse, or disabled students are encouraged to apply.

You’ll be required to upload a sample lesson plan of your own creation. We’re looking for lesson plans that show your ability to teach an engaging, hands-on lesson that give students opportunities for growth. You’ll also be given the opportunity to upload any other supporting documents or media that show your abilities as a teacher.
