The Women’s Voices Theater Festival, which began in September and runs into November, will present more than 50 new plays and musicals by women in theaters across the city. I spent a weekend sampling the offerings and came away impressed and energized by the quality and diversity on display…

The musical “Cake Off,” at Signature Theater, is inspired by a real incident, when in 1996 the Pillsbury Bake-Off raised its prize money from $50,000 to a cool million, and for the first time awarded the prize to – ack! — a man…there is a lovely ballad of self-doubt for Paul, and a rousing trio for the three central characters.
