SigWorks: Dinner and Cake
by Tuyet Thi Pham
Mylinh has the chance to boost her career and make connections – all she has to do is translate a simple dinner between American and Vietnamese in-laws. But when the couples clash over the course of the evening, Mylinh must navigate the complicated cultural, national and social politics between the two countries that make up her identity.
Dinner and Cake is presented as part of SigWorks: Monday Night New Play Readings, an initiative that highlights and supports the work of DMV and regional playwrights. This series is an opportunity for playwrights, actors, directors, designers, and patrons to explore new plays in a fun and informal environment. This reading of Dinner and Cake is presented in collaboration with Everyman Theatre.
