Signature in the Schools: The Spoken Word
by Joe Calarco
While tickets for Saturday’s performance are no longer available online, we encourage you to call the Box Office to reserve tickets. A limited number of tickets will be released to those waiting at standby before the performance on Saturday as well.
Germany in 1943. America in 2033. This charged, new Signature in the Schools play follows young adults separated by time and place, united by their resistance to the government oppression they’re surrounded by. In 2033, a group of protestors in hiding begin receiving cryptic text messages. Is it actually possible that they’re somehow from 1940’s anti-Nazi activist, Sophie Scholl, and other members of the famed White Rose resistance group? And if they are receiving those messages, why are they receiving them?
Featuring a cast and crew of Arlington Public Schools students and guest actor, Tracy Lynn Olivera, this new play by Joe Calarco continues Signature in the School‘s tradition of bringing difficult subjects alive by connecting them to history, politics and literature.
Signature in the Schools, Signature Theatre’s flagship education program, is a multifaceted program that encompasses workshops for English, Social Studies and Theatre classes, theatrical training for young artists, and the creation of an original play. The program includes pre-and post-show visits to school classrooms, resource guides for students, and curriculum guides for teachers. Signature in the Schools is offered to all participants free of charge. Students from Arlington and Fairfax County Public Schools also attend daytime performances for free to see their peers perform.
Please note: Any unclaimed tickets will be distributed to patrons in our standby line 15 minutes before the show. Please arrive early to ensure your seat.
