Musical Theater Fundamentals

A crash course in musical theater basics for middle school students (ages 11-14). Meet new friends as you learn how to focus your storytelling by synthesizing singing, dancing and acting skills into one unforgettable experience.  This semester will focus on material from the hit musical Newsies.

    Classes will take place at Signature's Education Studios, located at 2784 S. Arlington, Mill Dr, Arlington, VA 22206.

    Classes take place on Tuesdays, September 22 - November 17 (No class November 3); 6:00 - 7:30PM

Brigid Smullen

Brigid Smullen

Brigid Smullen holds a BM in Music Composition with a concentration in Classical Voice from Belmont University. She also holds a Minor in German Language, which allowed her to serve as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant in Austria from 2023-2024. Brigid is a member of the Voice Faculty at NM Productions, Inc. where she focuses on the mixed voice for Musical Theater. She teaches Classical, Musical Theater, and Pop styles, and has experience working with diverse age ranges. As an instructor, Brigid aims to help students find their creative "why", and develop students' love for their craft, and passion for the arts. In addition to teaching voice, Brigid enjoys working with STARS Performing Arts company! STARS Performing Arts: "Hadestown - Teen Edition" (Music Director and Conductor), "9-5 Jr." (Music Director and Camp Counselor), "Catch Me If You Can" (Music Director). Composition: Brigid composes original music in classical, musical theater, cinematic, and commercial styles, and has a diverse background instrumentally and vocally. Performance: Belmont Composition Honors Recital; Belmont University "Requiem For Color"; Belmont University "Christmas At Belmont" (TV Broadcast); Belmont University Chamber Singers; Belmont University New Music Ensemble; CFTC: A Brief Shakespeare Festival (Original Music); FX Players: The Little Mermaid (Atina), Good News (Millie)
