When Professor Steve Alton attends a ceremony honoring him for lifetime achievement as an entomologist the last thing he expects is to be confronted with his long-hidden past. But when the forbidden diaries he kept as a Nazi officer in occupied Paris during the Second World War are discovered by an eager young historian, Altsanger (his real name) is forced to explain his morally troublesome and possibly criminal past to his accuser as well as to himself.

Comissioned by the theatre as part of the Sallee New Century Play Series, The Diaries is inspired in part by the figure of Ernst Junger (1895-1998) and features a stellar cast that includes Julia Coffey, Daniel Frith, Edward Gero, and Sybill Lines.
