Playwright Audrey Cefaly will long remember last year’s Women’s Voices Festival as a time when, professionally, everything seemed to be coming together, but, personally, everything was falling apart.

On Aug. 21, 2015, Cefaly was driving from her home in Bowie, Md., to Arena Stage for an American Theatre magazine photo shoot featuring 25 playwrights with works in the festival. She was running late and sitting in traffic when she got a call from her husband, Mark.
