Bonanno Pisano was an Italian architect and sculptor from Pisa, active in the late 12th century, renowned for his contributions to Romanesque art and architecture. His most famous work is traditionally associated with the design of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, one of Italy’s most iconic and “failed” structures. Although his exact role in the tower’s construction is debated, he is often credited as the initial architect. Pisano also created notable bronze works for the Pisa Cathedral, reflecting the artistic style of his time. His designs and innovations have left a lasting impact on Italian art and architecture.
